In 1960, B'nai B'rith Youth Organization of Washington, D.C. (BBYO) founded the Ralph B. Penn Memorial Fund, to honor the memory of an active and dedicated member of BBYO. The Ralph B. Penn Memorial Fund annually awards a scholarship to a high-school senior who exemplifies the aims and ideals of B'nai B'rith youth, to assist students in furthering their studies beyond high school.
In 2010, to celebrate the 50th anniversary milestone and in recognition of the current economic climate, the Board of Directors elected to expand the Fund's role in supporting education and leadership programs of the D.C. area BBYO. In addition to the annual scholarship, the Fund provided scholarships to BBYO members who participated in the international March of the Living program and to help subsidize leadership training programs conducted by BBYO staff.

In 2017, the Ralph B. Penn Memorial Fund celebrated its 57th year of honoring outstanding members of BBYO and of supporting leadership training and cultural activities, such as Kallah and March of the Living. The 2017 scholarship was awarded to Dan Alpert of Simon Atlas AZA.
For three generations, the Ralph B. Penn Fund has honored outstanding AZA and BBG members who have led and inspired our BBYO community. The Fund takes pride in its role in maintaining and supporting BBYO and kvells in the accomplishments of its past and present honorees.
Financing for the Ralph B. Penn Memorial Fund comes from donations and returns on the Fund's investments. 100% of donations to the Fund are used to support scholarships and BBYO youth activites.
